Welcome to Adventure Wagons!

Welcome to Adventure Wagons!

Thanks for taking the time to stop by and read our new blog!

First I thought I'd talk a bit about Adventure Wagons, who we are and what we've done to create Adventure Wagons. Then in the future you can expect to find posts ranging from trip reports, advice for camping in an Adventure Wagon, suggestions for where to visit and things I hope Adventurers like me will find interesting!

Adventure Wagons is a young business, started in 2014 as a result of many a family dinner spent debating Dragon's Den style ideas between myself (Nikki), my sister Katie and her partner Gary. Gary being a mechanic has always been in to cars, particularly VWs. He's seen a lot of camper vans come through the garage where he works and became interested in their potential as a great base for adventures in Scotland and beyond. Personally I've always loved exploring the great outdoors and when Gary came to me with a potential van I didn't take much persuasion to get on board with the new family business.

Fitting out our first Adventure Wagon has been a long labour of love and it's safe to say now we've completed it we've learned a lot, would do a lot differently but we got there and we think the end result is fantastic. When we bought the van it was part converted and had a fixed bed, a sink and no means of cooking. This was totally impractical and we spent the first weekend pulling everything out until we had a blank canvas.

Firstly we removed the hideous "go faster" stripes, sorted the wiring, then set about insulating and recovering the interior panels. The difference in the van just from updating the interior trim was like night and day. I think at that point Gary and I realised just how nice the van would look when we finished! The interior was finished with a new rock n roll bed, swivel passenger seat and fold out table allowing you to create a social area for eating and relaxing. The bed converts from 2 seats with seat belts to a 3/4 width bed at night. There's even a flip down DVD player in the front cab that you can use while relaxing in bed at the back of the van.

Cooking in the van is easy even at 6 foot plus because of the headroom added by the high top roof. There's a twin gas hob and sink with cold running water. We've been so excited to show off our new interior to anyone and everyone. We're very proud of what we've got when we look back at the before pictures.

We really feel the end product is stunning and we hope you'll be along soon to take it for an adventure! Viewing is most welcome depending on van availability of course! Please contact us to discuss and we can show you the van from our base in Central Edinburgh.
